painting was done totally with the palette knife, I toned the canvas sketched out my drawing first with a brush, and then put all brushes away and completed the work with the palette knife. Back and forth with color upon color, thick impasto layers!

work is one of a series of works I have painted featuring some of my collection of salt-glazed pottery from Germany. I love the rich blues (our family calls them Barnette Blue’s) and the textures of the ceramics. This particular painting is a larger work as is the crock itself.

work is more impressionistic with less detail, giving the viewer the information he/she needs to see the blossoms, however not flooding the senses with an overload of unnecessary information for the intelligent viewer.

trumpet-shaped flowers of Amaryllis contrasted well with the tiny white blossoms from the red tip scrub in a hand-painted Polish ceramic vase creating bursts of both brilliant color and pattern. I look forward to putting these two together every year, or sometimes adding daffodils to the mix.
