There’s something special about a home that bears your own name even to this day. This home was built by my grandmother’s father in Mullens, SC. Both my Aunt and I were named after my grandmother Gladys Ruffin Yarborough, though the last the letters were dropped. Early on as a child I began to be called Yarbi by my family, but I can tell you it is quite an honor this southern tradition to carry on family names. I wouldn’t trade my name, Yarboro for any other. As for the Yarborough Home, I only wish we lived close enough to have kept it in our family, I am still honored that they still refer to it as the Yarborough Home, the home where my sweet grandmother grew up and later married my dear grandfather before moving away.
